Anat Cohen on The New Jazz Thing
I interviewed a great Jazz artist on the show last night and have the audio up for anyone interested. She has two New disc out...what a feat! And we chatted during her break playing with someone else at Small's Jazz Club in NYC. Lots of fun and lots of different ways to listen...
Links...
"Frankly, I had no idea what to expect from Anat Cohen’s first big band album. But if I’d had any expectations, they’d have easily been surpassed by the time the opening track reached its midway point. Cohen plays clarinet on that selection, and it’s easy to understand why music critics have named her one of Down Beat magazine’s “rising stars” on the instrument. She’s not only an intrepid and resourceful clarinetist, but also equally impressive on tenor, alto and soprano saxes, as she proves elsewhere.".
"This is a wonderfully recorded session, overflowing with tender, charming melodies, and everyone involved is a world-class musician. On the other hand, it’s not exactly jazz: more like chamber music, bordering at times on classical and not too many steps removed from the venerable klezmer tradition. There is improvisation, but it flows so easily from the arrangements that one is scarcely aware of it.".

TNJT Last Night, Hendrik MP3 Up, Streamload Re-loaded
Great TNJT show last night (2005.08.18) inspiring me to rise a tad bit early and slice together and post the MP3 of the Hendrik Meurkens interview and get it all linked into the http://TNJT.com and TNJT - The Tunes for 2005.08.18 (the interview segments in the log are linked up to the interview...easy access to the audio from there...cool). This is probably my most dialed-in web coverage in a while. Feels good and interconnected!! Enjoy!! And offer suggestions for making the show and web experience more enjoyable!!! Please!!!

While double checking how my MP3 streaming/hosting vendor http://Streamload.com was handling the new audio, by digging it in the office this morning, I couldn't download it. What tha? Well, I come to find out that I'm not delivering ANY audio...none of the other interviews on-line are playing (and I had a reader ask about something not working about 2/3 weeks ago..duh VO)...wow...I find out I've gone through my entire 12Gigabyte download limit (really, the amount of download bandwidth I had bought from Streamload)!! I never imagined I'd blow through that...I'm not that popular.
But Mohammed Reza Lotfi is!! Little did I know that in July, I had over a thousand people download 7.9Gigabytes of MP3 interviews...much of it the MR Lotfi interview...example 197 users downloading almost 1 Gig on July 11, 2005 alone!! I'm blown away by those stats. How are people finding me?! And they do, because even this morning...after getting some more download Gigs bought (at about $44 bucks total...ouch...must look at other options for podcast hosting) to get folks listening again...I think I've been off the air...no downloads (and probably lost visitors)...since July 21...almost a month...uuuggggghhhhh...anyway...after getting it back on-the-air so-to-speak...I immediately started seeing the Hendrik Meurkens MP3 get some download action...from Sweden! And Singapore!! 11 requests for the interview since I posted it 3 hours ago...the latest from Belgium (based on their IP address...thanks GeoSelect)..I'm amazed...who's pointing to me? Because I don't think I have that many people subscribed to my TNJT Podcast-enabled RSS 2.0 feed...which is the only way I could explain folks getting notified of the new MP3...or Hendrik / Diana / ? has sent out some mail or posted something somewhere sending folks my way...I'm amazed and thrilled...but I must do a bit more research to really get a handle on this...
And thanks to those who are listening and digging!!
I could never imagine it so I dig deeper into my Streamload report logs
