Interesting. Would be good to have a questionaire like this for business leaders requesting funding for improvements (process / IT) projects.

no real difference in styles. Traditional costumes are worn for folk festivals and events.
-
They dress just like Americans do.

Mild weather with hot summers and cold winters.

Thanks for the tip Mom!

SD fire chief needs 20 stations, 50 engines, 2nd helicopter, and rules. SD is fire country. We should do this, shouldn't we?

Cool alternate way to read the UT. And once you register an account, reading an article gives several blogging options, although not to vo.com movable type platform. You can add to Del.icio.us and Digg (which I'm just now experimenting with).

Sounds like a pretty interesting guy. Must have worked with SAIC's Dr. Beyster at Los Alamos and General Atomics. Wide variety of knowledge and applications. Smart.

This is the non eEdition version of the page. This is one downside of reading and blogging about stories in the eEdition...it's a different URL than others might be reading from, so it's hard to track other's insights on stories using the URL

This is a cool event, although it's usually soooo crowded. I bet there are some secrets of when to go and where to park.

Actually several holiday icicle light strings are now on Casa Chaos, but I need to run to the store a couple more to finish the front of the house. But I got these done just as it started a brief downpour, so the timing was right!
Now...off to prep for Mr. Anderson's big 50 party! Run, Timothy, Run!
Evel Knievel Jumps Back Into My Life One Last Time
Flashy stunt rider awed crowds | The San Diego Union-Tribune: Evel was a big human superhero to lots of us youngsters of the 1960s and 70s. Watching his stunts on Wide World of Sports on Saturday afternoons or the special Sunday WWoS was definitely part of growing up then. I'm sure I had a EK metal lunch box and an action figure or two.
Here's the classic Evel at Ceasar's horrendous crash in 1968. Check out all the people and the way his body just goes limp...ugh...
And here he is jumping the Snake River...what a wild man! It also includes a shot of a couple other crashes and some words by Evel...and then the video ends before they get him out of the rocket in the water...what happened!
And Evel and Wembly (who knows when)...another horrible crash...
So where are the successful Evel Knieval YouTube Videos?
Here's one! Portland, 1974...
Finally, here's a tribute video that has a lot of him jumps put together...
Evel...RIP

Lack of resources, outside support plague fire department, chief says
SD fire chief needs 20 stations, 50 engines, 2nd helicopter, and rules. Lifecycle cost for 10 years: $500 Old story. Time to wake up: SD is fire country. She attributes Global Warming. We should do this, shouldn't we? What's not in article: What were costs this time? 2003? Needed for cost / benefit analysis. County vs. city impacts. Who-How to Pay?
I guess an additional concern I have is that I've been hearing how San Diego citizens don't want to pay for this, based on our votes on previous spending issues.
I'm sure there are lots of thoughts on all sides of this infrastructure spending, but it seems like we need to do something to protect us.

Allied Gardens Rec Youth Hoops Draft (Re)Scheduled to December 15, 2007
The tryout / draft for the Allied Gardens Rec Youth Basketball Winter 2007 8 and under and 10 and under divisions has been rescheduled (due to weather and event conflicts) to December 15, 2007 at their previous times. Here are a couple of event pages that you can use to add them to your eCalendar if you'd like.
Players need to show up ready to go through some basic basketball moves such as dribbling, lay-ups, and shots in front of coaches. After that, coaches meet to draft players and develop rosters.

Interview tonight. Charlie at Anthology soon. This is a really interesting album, not like the funky jammy stuff he's done before, but rocky bluesy jammy...makes sense right?!
-
Really positive reviews for what seems like a transition album for him...very different than his previous work but kind of the next in a series. And why cant AAJ get the titles on their web pages complete? Interview tonight on TNJT.
-
Some really good quotes and fodder for questions, including: "To further establish the sound of his new trio, Hunter abandoned the bubbly, jam-friendly guitar tone that defines his numerous Blue Note recordings. Instead..."
-
These reviews of this disc have made me re-excited about this disc...lots of great talk about it's ecclectic-ness and jammy rock vibe. It's definitely different from other Charlie works.
-
I loved the Nightfly (have it on vinyl) and Kamakiriad (one of my first CDs). This would be fun to experience, both the 3rd one I haven't heard and the bonus material.

Real Bamboo

I saw this in my next-door work-neighhorbor's cube and I flashed on the Sumi-E bamboo I created yesterday. I wish I would have had this as a model then...but I do now!

I learned and attempted this today, helping during Art Corp in Miles class. It is very cool in that it is simple, meant to be contemplated before worked on, and even the preparation of materials is supposed to be meditative. Excellent!

Sumi-E by VO Mrs. Kirkness' Class
I had the great opportunity to help in class this morning while Art Corp parent-volunteers taught the Sumi-E painting style to the kids. I put a couple snaps of the kids Sumi-E work in a photo-set. Here's one shot...aren't they really great?!
As I helped the kids today, I practiced quite a bit and actually had a first version that got picked up during clean-up. So I whipped this one out in about 1 minute, which I later found was a good way to do it...it is supposed to be continuous strokes, no re-do, etc. It came out OK and graces my cube at work now. Thanks to all of the Art Corp parents who taught this dog a new and cool trick!

What an interesting concept...being able to build small groups of friends and associates that share links and the value of those links, along with commentary. It seems like there are many tools that sort-of do this.
